ORL supported client VINCI Construction UK’s graduate induction event recently. Held over two days, the event focused on career development, interpersonal skills and team work, and included presentations from VINCI Directors and CEO Bruno Dupety. The event was a huge success and all who attended were motivated, enthused and engaged throughout the two days together. We wish them all the very best in their future careers with the company.
Here are some of the graduates completing a team exercise called ‘Bits and Pieces’ that explored the VINCI core values of Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Integrity & Discipline.
ORL are delighted to have teamed up with award-winning writer and stand-up comedian Bennett Arron who will be working with us on a range of specialist development programmes.
Bennett, who has performed around the UK as well as in Hong Kong, South Africa and Australia and who supported Ricky Gervais on some of his tour dates, will be sharing his unique comedic knowledge and experience in specialist teambuilding events for groups of up to 25 people. There is lots of evidence that humour in the work environment can help break down barriers, bring people together and build levels of respect, trust and mutual accountability.
If you’re a leader looking to develop your presentation skills and truly engage and inspire your audiences, then Bennett can help. Through his experience within the world of theatre, we can offer a fantastic opportunity to increase confidence, engagement and authenticity in your presentation style. You may never fear another presentation again!
Bennett’s highly creative ideas and activities blend perfectly with our own approach towards performance improvement and we look forward to delivering lots of enlightening and fun sessions together in the very near future.
In March this year we were pleased to announce that we had partnered with Slimming World – one of the UK’s leading slimming organisations – to help develop their leadership capability. Eleven leaders at Slimming World were chosen to complete a pilot leadership programme called ‘Leadership in Action’ which would lead to each of them gaining their Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management. ORL helped deliver the ILM course and supported the leaders to complete and submit a set of work-based assignments. The programme was specially adapted to reflect Slimming World’s unique culture, enabling the graduates to apply their new found learning back in the business. After months of hard work, the leaders recently delivered their final presentations to Slimming World’s senior team and we are delighted to say that each leader successfully completed the programme with flying colours!
The graduate leaders were presented with their ILM certificates at a champagne reception which fully recognised their hard work and efforts. Lyn Green, Slimming World Head of Talent, Learning and Organisational Development, said “The graduates all put so much time and effort into their training and it’s been a pleasure and a joy to be part of that journey”.
A huge ‘well done’ to everyone involved in the programme from us at ORL and we wish you all the very best for your next phase of Leadership in Action!
The Slimming World ‘Leadership in Action’ graduates are pictured below with their ILM Level 3 certificates:
Learning At Work week runs from 15th-19th May and we were very excited to have the opportunity to launch two new ILM programmes with our clients, the construction and infrastructure division at Morgan Sindall. The team based in Rugby have commenced an ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership & Management, whilst the team in London have started an ILM Level 3 Certificate Programme. Participants will attend a series of workshops over the coming weeks before submitting their final assignments. We look forward to presenting them with their qualification certificates in recognition of their hard-earned achievements!
Darkness befell the training room this week when the lights went out (literally!) during one of our ‘5 Star Customer Service’ courses for VINCI Facilities staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, London (see pic below). Intrepid ORL associates Andy and Anita Lowe….and of course our lovely 5 Star delegates!….ploughed on regardless and thankfully power was fully restored before too long. This week’s courses were our second visit to the hospital in as many months and more events are being planned for VINCI managers and staff in the very near future. The aim of the programme is to help customer-facing employees feel confident in delivering truly ‘5 Star’ standards of service in all aspects of their role.

Heard of BS 11000? It’s a management system standard that provides a framework for collaborative business relationships that help companies develop and manage their interactions with other organisations. We’re currently supporting one of our clients Taylor Woodrow – the civils division of VINCI – to help bring BS 11000 to life. Working in small groups we’ve been exploring all aspects of relationship building including trust, influence and negotiation, conflict and behavioural impacts, to give TW’s Project Management team the skills and confidence to work more collaboratively.
